Small Work #3 Cavilino City Critique Method in Class

  • 1. Rapid Fire Material Analysis

  •      The materials that have been used in this display are Rope, Glass, Wood, Burlap, Cork and Thread.

  • 2. Rapid Fire Formal Analysis

  •      The burlap sack gives reference to Euphemia being that it is a material used for packaging goods and used for trade. The bottles give the reference of the people coming from all over to the sea port. The wood gives reference to the ship that comes to the port to unload the cargo for the port.

  • 3. Interpretation of Contextual Referent

    • The materials bring a sense of Market and trade as well as social aspects.
  • 4. An Understanding of Place Through Conveyance of Mood

    • The mood gives a social location and the sense of location says a sea port or market place.
    •  In reference to the text the Burlap sacks represent the cargo of nuts, poppy seeds and other goods being traded into the port. The wooden box gives reference to the merchants  and the bottles with rolled up paper represent the stories and social aspect of the people that gather to share memories with each other.

    Small Work#1 Garden

For my small work assignment I chose Treetops park in Davie, Florida for my 30 minute writing and drawing. After walking a small trail in the middle of the park I captured this scenery of a quiet calm lake. the weather was cool and the sky was clear. The lake was filled with catfish, turtles, alligators and you could even see quite a few ducks as well. It was very serene and peaceful.

    Small work topic #4 Poetry

    Serene lake

Walking the end of a breathless take,
Approaching the beginning of a clear serene lake,

Vibrations of wind, birds, water, and hushed cars,
how I wonder what it's like being here with the night stars.

A surface roofed with Lillies, trees, and bush features,
In the water lies catfishes, turtles, ducks and other living creatures.

The scent of clear air, flowers, and fresh pine,
a place so peaceful a place of sublime.

With open fields and woods condense,
The grass is rich in color and clearly immense.

The sky, vast and partially clear,
Clouds of cirrus and stratus I spot from the pier.

As the wind softly blows the surface with tension,
the water is still clear you can see another dimension.

As I leave, my last breath I take,
I long to come back to the beautiful, quiet, serene lake.

    Ornament / Personality Chair Design

Here is a front view of my chair ornament.

Using reference from my original chair ornament,
I added traits of my personality and constructed
a chair that best revealed my character.

    Using Patterns for Reference

I selected this chair for a good representation of my personality because not only does it give an artistic appearance but is also gives the impression that it looks comfortable. I've been told that I'm a comfortable person to be around with. You can definitely trust a chair like this. I also have a balanced sense of style and based on the designs on the chair, it also reminds me of music. Maybe its because the hardware of the chair reminds me of the notes written on a music sheet. The designs on the chair also look very decorative and it looks very stable. The chair is also very encouraging to be interacted with because it has a fun and friendly appearance.

    2-D to 3-D Translation

For my 3-D translation piece, I wanted to make an object that symbolized pain.

I used a small box with a transparent screen and painted it black. Then placed an LED finger light inside the box and put cotton balls around it. I then broke up the cotton balls and made a thin, transparent wall of cotton to go over the LED. I thought the end result looked really cool. It has definitely met my expectation for me to symbolize pain.

    Form - Based Language

My three choices of material that I used for the two small works were wood, colored pencils, and charcoal. I used plywood as my background and did an observation on the grain of the wood and how it produced a kind of background. So I wanted to use most of the natural material and I drew a statue and gate in my front yard and placed them in the foreground while the wood grain projected the background.

For this piece, I used the wood grain to construct the art work by following the grain and made a drawing based on the natural material.

I constructed a cargo ship using playing cards as my first object. playing cards can be used for a lot of things. Sometimes they can be used for making card houses. I have a fascination with vessels, ships, and voyages and I wanted to see how the result would turn out if I made a boat out of playing cards.

As I was searching for material in my home, I noticed that I had a lot of old wires and broken headphones. I wanted to use these materials very loosely to observe and construct an object with just using the wires. After a few twists and slight adjustments, I saw an outline depicting a kind of sea creature.

In my living room I have a table with two movable components. Both of these components have  mirrors on top of them, and one component is slightly raised higher then the other. I wanted to place an object above the table while adjusting the mirrors and I saw how they reflected the object in a different perspective and how it chanced their original appearance.
